The new year brings a new and bountiful harvest of delicious fresh fruits ripe for the picking at Lake County Florida's acres of U-Pick farms. The Showcase of Citrus (5010 U.S. Highway 27, Clermont), a family-owned and operated estate cultivating more than 70 varieties of citrus, is located just minutes from the Orlando theme parks. The attraction is known for its natural orange juice slushy and ice cream treat, and offers the freshest varieties of oranges, red and white grapefruit, and Meyer lemons during the winter months. While Lake County may be best known for its lush citrus groves, that's just the half of it. Visit one of several strawberry fields and expansive vineyards to experience more of its uniquely fresh attractions. Oak Haven Farms & Winery (32418 Avington Road, Sorrento) grows the juiciest berries on the vine and features a country kitchen with old-fashioned strawberry shortcakes, homemade milkshakes and ice cream sundaes for the kids, plus strawberry wine made on-site for adults. At Florida's largest premium winery, Lakeridge Winery (19239 U.S. Highway 27, Clermont), spend the day sampling wines made from locally-grown Muscadine grapes. Lakeridge hosts its Winter Music Series during the entire month of January, with different acts playing each weekend. Winefest XXVII, the biggest event of 2017, is held February 10-12, featuring opportunities to sample the fruits of the previous year's harvest while more than 80 local artists display and sell their work.
